William Brewster
It is almost 400 years since the Pilgrims set sail from the historic port of Plymouth in 1620 bound for a the New World and a life free from religious persecution. Blast From the Past has developed a bespoke History workshop for schools to help children celebrate and learn about this important moment in History.
Social Distancing Achieved
A great day was spent presenting a Mayflower workshop for the Key Worker children. All resources were adapted to respect social distancing.
Pilgrim Stories
The story of William Brewster one of the elders of the separatist church is told, together with many of the pilgrims. passengers and crew, The children go on a trail to find out what happened to their chosen character and then retell that story to the rest of the group. These stories include acts of heroism, bravery and in one case murder!
Bespoke Activities
I have created a solo Mayflower game in which the children collect provisions for the voyage of the Mayflower. It was great to see the children enjoy the game and learn at the same time.
Making a pilgrim
Using just a dolly peg, pipe cleaner, Plasticine and some material the children made a Pilgrim to take home with them. They enjoyed customising their Pilgrim although our idea of them wearing buckles on their hat and shoes is an unlikely one.
