Roman Day at Riverside

A great day was spent with the Year 4 children at Riverside Academy in Plymouth as a Roman Legionary soldier from Hadrian’s Wall. The children learnt what life was like in the second century AD for the people of Britannia and of those soldiers of the Sixth Legion who were involved with the building of one of Roman’s most impressive defensive structures.
The children also learnt about Roman armour, weapons and other artefacts like this Cornu which was used to relay signals to the soldiers.
In the afternoon the children marched with shields and wore their own helmets that they had made earlier in the day.
